I always wonder how sushii rice is prepared. It seems to look easy to do. Maybe I'll give it a try. I guess it's easy to do a sushi rice if you are Japanese. So I was surfing the net (not looking at food!) and came across this Sushi Rice recipe from allrecipes.com.
Here is the list of ingredients needed for this recipe.
- 2 cups of uncooked glutinous white rice
- 3 cups water - 1/2 cup rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Prep time would take around 5 mins. Cooking time would be 20 minutes and it will be ready in 25 minutes.
First, rinse the rice in a strainer or colander until the water is clear. Comibine with water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Rice should be tender and water should be absorbed. Cool until cool enough to handle.
Second, in a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, oil, sugar and salt. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Cool, then stir into the cooked rice. When you pour this in to the rice it will seem very wet. Keep stirring and the rice will dry as it cools.
You can now then serve it as it is or turn into maki rolls. Now that's for another post. We'll try to make our own Makir Rolls next time.
