How Eating Can Affect Your Body in Illness

Some research does suggest eating may influence short-term immune function. We all know that colds/flu are always viral in nature, and anything that affects the immune system surely will have something to do with what you got right now. However, the research is inconclusive on whether or not eating effects the course of a cold. Although food does not seem too appealing when feeling ill, starving yourself is not ideal. During the course of your colds, you may experience some discomfort in your throat as well. As we know, this will make eating harder for you. It is advisable to take some nutritious, greens laden soup.

With a fever, the body is already burning calories at a much higher rate. Not replenishing the body with calories and energy can ultimately make the body feel depleted and weaker and contribute to muscle loss. Do not let your illness dictate on what you do with your health. Obviously, intake of source of food and energy will help equip your body with the right resistance to fight off the illness.

Always remember that soft, bland foods can be most desirable with a cold or fever and should be consumed as tolerated. Also, it is important to make sure that you see a doctor as part of a precautionary measure to ensure that you are getting the best care that you need.
